Coverage questions
Clear up the assumptions before comparing options.
The useful answer usually starts with an ownership detail, a location or a piece of policy wording. These questions help prepare that discussion.
Does property coverage follow a prototype to a customer site?
Do not assume it does. Check the described premises, any off-premises extension and the applicable limits. A prototype on loan or under evaluation may need a separate inland marine review that includes its use and time away.
How should we prepare values for production equipment?
List the equipment with ownership details and the basis used for its value. Distinguish purchase cost from replacement cost, and identify tooling or installation needs. The valuation wording and any coinsurance provision should be reviewed against that list.
Is a certificate enough to satisfy a customer’s insurance request?
A certificate summarizes information; it does not itself add coverage. Compare the customer’s requirements with the policy and any applicable endorsements, particularly requests for additional-insured status or products-completed operations coverage.
What changes when we use a contract manufacturer?
The submission needs to explain what the manufacturer does and what property it holds. Identify ownership of tooling, components and finished units, then examine how the agreement allocates responsibility for damage and product allegations.
Will general liability pay to replace a defective batch?
A batch replacement or warranty obligation should not be treated as the same issue as third-party injury or damage. General liability exclusions and separate product recall coverage may be relevant. The proposed wording must be checked before relying on a response.
Can we begin without a complete equipment schedule?
You can begin by describing the operation and noting what information is missing. Accurate values, locations and other requested details may still be needed before terms can be evaluated. Keep estimates clearly identified during the discussion.
Who performs the insurance procurement work?
Procurement services are performed by Spot and its brokerage partners; Potrero Risk does not itself transact insurance.
These are review topics, not a statement that a particular loss is covered. Policy wording, scheduled property, limits, deductibles and exclusions determine the response.
Put the next production change on the agenda.
A new machine, outside storage or a first customer installation can change the insurance discussion. Procurement services are performed by Spot and its brokerage partners; Potrero Risk does not itself transact insurance.
